Kelly "Girl" Sutton Clinches Eighth in Points
NASCAR Goody's Dash Series Driver Finishes Season Eighth of 65 Drivers

ATLANTA (October 24, 2003) — Kelly "Girl" Sutton was looking forward to her return to the quarter-mile asphalt track at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Sutton spent most of the season in the top 10 in points and had climbed to sixth in the standings with her sights set on breaking into the top five overall.

After qualifying in the 15th position, and claiming the sixth fastest time during practice, Sutton waited eagerly for the green flag to wave. The cars had no sooner driven into turn three on the first lap, than the caution flag waved for a spinning car. The race resumed on lap six, and Sutton set her eyes toward the front, quickly advancing to the 10th position.

Sutton crossed the start/finish line to start lap 22, and drove hard into turn one, suddenly hearing from her spotter of a slow car in the next turn. With nowhere to go, she was collected in a multi-car pile-up in turn two. Caution was out, and so was Sutton. After a quick inspection by her crew chief, the car was sent to the garage for the night. Despite a heartbreaking early departure from the race, Sutton earned enough points to clinch the eighth position in the overall point standings, in only her second full season in the Dash Series.

Justin Hobgood claimed the checkered flag for the final Goody's Dash Series race of 2003, his first victory of the year. Robert Huffman maintained his dominant points lead and claimed the 2003 Goody's Dash Series championship, his fifth overall.
