Goody's Dash Series Drivers Get Ready for Brawny 150 Season Finale at Atlanta Motor Speedway

Huffman's Historic Fifth Championship Assured, Raging Rookie Battle to be Decided

Daytona Beach, Fla. (Oct. 16, 2003) The road to the Goody's Dash Series, NASCAR Touring championship concludes at the 1/4-mile quad-flat asphalt oval at Atlanta Motor Speedway, with the running of the Brawny 150 presented by Pork The Other White Meat on Friday, Oct. 24. Series points leader Robert Huffman (No. 37 White House Apple Juice Toyota) has virtually clinched the championship heading into next week's finale but the rest of the points positions — and the prestigious rookie of the year award — will be decided at this event.

Huffman, of Claremont, N.C., leads all Goody's Dash Series drivers in victories this season (three) and with his fifth Goody's Dash Series title at hand, Huffman will make NASCAR history by giving Toyota its first ever NASCAR championship. Huffman will also enter the record books as the final NASCAR champion of the Goody's Dash Series. In 2004, BRDAYTONA, a Florida-based motorsports promotion company, will take over the sanctioning and operation of the series.

"I am excited about heading into Atlanta and being able to wrap the championship there," Huffman said. "With this Championship being my fifth of my career it is pretty awesome, especially for Toyota as it will be their first NASCAR Championship and number four for my sponsor, White House Apple Juice.

"To be the last Goody's Dash Series, NASCAR Touring Champion after doing this for ten years, and be able to capture five championships and tie the great Dean Combs makes this championship run really special," Huffman said.

2002 Goody's Dash Series champion Jake Hobgood (No. 64 Germain Automotive Toyota) will look to keep younger brother Justin Hobgood (No. 65 Germain Automotive Pontiac) at bay and hold on to his second place position in the Goody's Dash Series standings. Both Hobgood brothers have been in contention for the championship themselves, but some bad luck and poor finishes at Kentucky and Bristol made it difficult for either of the Hobgoods to catch Huffman.

"Robert has locked up the championship and it's now a tight race between me and Justin for second and third," Jake said. "I think it’s going to be a great race for the fans and fun race for Justin and myself as we will see who will be in second after the race.

"I am disappointed that we won’t be able to capture that second championship but to get Toyota a one-two finish in the points would mean a lot to me after we made that change early in the season from Pontiac, to Toyota."

In Atlanta, the stage will also be set for one of the most exciting endings to one of the most memorable rookie of year battles in Goody's Dash Series history. This season's class of rookies has been a big surprise. Led by rookie points leader TJ Majors (No. 26 Moss Motorsports Pontiac), Jay Godley (No. 18 MRD Motorsports Pontiac) and Eric Wilson (No. 4 John Boy & Billy /Old Milwaukee Pontiac), the group is separated by only four points in the rookie standings and it has come down to the last race at Atlanta Motor Speedway to see who will win the prestigious award.

Posted awards for the Brawny 150 presented by Pork The Other White Meat, which is scheduled to begin at 9:00 p.m. Oct. 24, are $55,375. Qualifying for the 150-lap race is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 23 at 7:00 p.m.
