Strader Captures His Second Win of 2003 at Bristol Motor Speedway

Bristol, TN. (August 23, 2003) — It was survival of the fittest for Goody's Dash Series drivers at Bristol Motor Speedway as 2001 Goody's Dash Series Champion Cam Strader (No. 6 Home Style Bakes/Food City/Royal Purple Mercury) fended off a hard charging Robert Huffman (No. 37 White House Apple Juice Toyota) on the closing laps to collect his second win of the 2003 season and his first ever career win at Bristol Motor Speedway.

The Wilson, NC native started in the thirteenth spot and patiently worked his way through the field taking the lead on lap 114 from Huffman.

"It has been a goal of mine to win here at Bristol. I have always had success here in the past but couldn’t seem to get that win but know I can say I have won at Bristol. I had a great car from the start although we didn’t qualify that well. The car just got stronger as the race progressed and I know the car would be their at the end."

For Goody's Dash Series point's leader Robert Huffman (No. 37 White House Apple Juice Toyota), he started the race in the sixth position and never looked back as he brought home a second place finish moving him one race closer to his fifth Goody's Dash Series, NASCAR Touring Championship. Huffman's car was stout all race long. The Claremont, NC native held the lead twice during the 150 lap race taking the lead from Johnny Chapman driver of the (No. 33 Horton Homes/US Restoration Pontiac) on lap 46 and than later in the race Huffman regained the lead for a second time when he passed Brandon Ward (No. 11 Rayco Safety/TRD Toyota) on lap 86. Huffman lead a total of 31 laps.

"We needed to finish at least in the top five and we did it. Man we had a good shot at winning this one. The car vapor locked during one of the restarts and Cam got around us. I tried to catch Cam but wore the tires trying to. Know all we have to do is start at Atlanta and we can bring home Toyota's first Championship."

It was a tough race for boys from Winnsboro, SC as Justin and Jake Hobgood were looking to gain some ground on point’s leader Robert Huffman but it was not meant to be. Justin (No. 65 Germain Motorsports Pontiac) had a great start by setting a new Goody's Dash Series, NASCAR Touring Bud Pole qualifying record at Bristol Motor Speedway with a time of 16.062/119.462mph breaking the previous record of 16.264/117.978mph set by B.J. Mackey. Hobgood also lead laps 1-16 and looked like he was the car to beat early on in the race but an accident mid way through the race ended Hobgoods dreams of his first Goody's Dash Series, NASCAR Touring Championship.

For 2002 Goody's Dash Series, NASCAR Touring Champion Jake Hobgood it was a tough day at the office as well. He qualified in the eighth spot and ended up finishing ninth. Hobgood struggled getting his (No. 64 main Automotive Toyota) to run well all day but still managed to finish with a top 10 finish.

Stony Point, NC resident Johnny Chapman (No. 33 Horton Homes/US Restoration) finished with an impressive third place finish as Chapman lead from lap 39-45. Last year's winner from Shelby, NC Scott Weaver (No. 02 Weaver Racing Pontiac) had another great run at Bristol Motor Speedway as he finished in the fourth spot and Keith Roggen from Winter Haven, FL (No.94 Southern Road Builders) rounded out the top-five finishers.

Taylorsville, NC resident Eric Wilson (No. John Boy & Billy/Old Milwaukee Pontiac) was the top finishing rookie of the race as he finished in 11th place. Rookie point's leader TJ Majors (No. 26 Moss Motorsports Pontiac) had a tough day finishing the race in 31st spot and was the fourth highest finishing rookie as engine problems ended his race early. Jay Godley from Concord, NC (No.18 MRD Motorsports Pontiac) was the second highest finishing rookie finishing 25th and home town driver from Blountville, TN Reece Milton (No. 75 Food City USA/Refrigeration Services/Ferguson/Pizza Plus Toyota) was the third highest finishing rookie of the race finishing 30th.

The next event for Goody's Dash Series will be on Friday October 24, 2003 at the 1/4 mile paved oval of Atlanta Motor Speedway in Atlanta, GA.
