Goody's Dash Series Introduced To Pittsburghers
By Randy Claypoole

August 19, 2002

PITTSBURGH, PA – 1 Goody's Dash Series, NASCAR Touring drivers, Randy Humphrey, Chuck Gafrarar, and Robert Huffman visited "The Burgh" this past Friday and Saturday. The drivers signed autographs and displayed their racecars at Motordrome Speedway, Station Square's Hard Rock Café, and Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway.

"This town is really nice," Huffman commented. "I will have to make plans to bring my family on a vacation here. There seems to be plenty to do."

Upon arriving in Pittsburgh on Friday, the drivers first visited Motordrome Speedway in nearby Smithton. The Goody's Dash Series will compete at the half-mile semi-banked oval on Friday, September 13, 2002. This will be the first time a touring series has visited this close to the downtown metropolis of Pittsburgh. "We wanted to come to town and give the NASCAR Fans in Pittsburgh a preview of our series," Gafrarar said. Chuck Gafrarar, a native of Lancaster, PA, is also a graduate of Penn State University.

"I signed at least 400 autographs," said Humphrey. "We really had a lot of fun. Coming here together to represent the series and NASCAR feels good."

Tony Stephens, a Public Relations student, who attends California University located a few minutes from Motordrome commented, "I think that the drivers being here with their cars and answering the questions asked by all the fans has raised their curiosity to a much higher level. Now, I can't wait for the race in September."

The drivers enjoyed interacting with the local drivers and checking out the track at Motordrome. "I think this track will really suit our cars," Huffman said. The track is seventy-five feet wide and offers two grooves of racing.

Saturday, the teams displayed their cars in from of the Hard Rock Café at Station Square. Diane Greco, Marketing Director at Station Square, hosted the drivers during the day.

"I am so excited about having these guys here. It is so much fun watching the fans look into the cars. The excitement on their faces is really something," said Greco. "My wheels are already turning on how we can make this even bigger and better for next year," she added.

Robert Huffman invited Greco to sit in his racecar for a photo. She jumped at the opportunity. After all, how often does a fan get to sit in a car that won at places like Daytona International Speedway and Lowe's Motor Speedway.

From little children to adults, male and female, they stood in line to get an autograph and lots of photos with the drivers and their machines. Fierce competitors on the track, but comrades when relating to the public, the drivers harmonized when it came to spending time with the new fans they were creating.
