NASCAR Touring Division To Be Featured On "NASCAR TV"

February 4, 2002

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) and SPEED Channel have announced a new cable television package that will feature NASCAR Touring series races, Monday evenings beginning at 8:00 p.m. (Eastern Time). The races will air as part of "NASCAR TV" on SPEED Channel, the first channel-within-a-channel devoted to a single sport. "NASCAR TV" is scheduled to premiere on Monday, Feb. 11 when the cable network now known as Speedvision officially re-launches as SPEED Channel.

Eight NASCAR Touring series currently race in different regions of the United States - including the Busch North Series, Featherlite Modified Series, Featherlite Southwest Series, Goody's Dash Series, Hills Bros All Pro Series, Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series, RE/MAX Challenge Series and the NASCAR Winston West Series. Tape-delayed coverage of these series' events on "NASCAR TV" begins with the season-opening events for the NASCAR Winston West Series and Featherlite Southwest Series, which took place at Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway on Feb. 2. These races will be televised, respectively, on Feb. 25 and March 4. Coverage continues with the Goody's Dash Series race from Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 9, which will be broadcast on "NASCAR TV" on Monday, March 18.

The Monday broadcasts of selected NASCAR Touring races will also re-air on Wednesday afternoons, allowing viewers more opportunities to watch the races. Check local listings for more details.

"The entertainment and competitive value of NASCAR racing, in all series, has never been higher, and this new television package is a reflection of that fact," stated Paul Brooks, NASCAR vice president of broadcasting. "Our fans in every region of the country have asked for this type of programming, and we are very confident that it will boost awareness of each series and their sponsors, and benefit all of the NASCAR Touring teams, tracks and drivers. It's terrific exposure for everyone involved, and a great TV product for the 75 million NASCAR fans across America. We look forward to some exciting developments on 'NASCAR TV' in the future."

SPEED Channel, which is currently available in 45 million homes in the United States, is the first and only 24-hour cable network devoted exclusively to motorsports and the human fascination for speed. SPEED Channel is home to much of the world's marquee racing events including NASCAR, CART, F1, Classic Cars, World Rally, car shows and other motorsports activities from around the globe.  Fox Cable Networks Group acquired Speedvision network in July 2001, and it will be officially re-launched as SPEED Channel on Feb. 11.
