Goody’s Dash Series, NASCAR Touring Schedule Includes Three Superspeedway Events, Three New Tracks in 2002

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) announced the 2002 Goody’s Dash Series, NASCAR Touring schedule, featuring 14 events in eight states. The schedule includes visits to three new tracks in 2002.

The 2002 campaign begins with the traditional Goody's Dash Series opener at Daytona International Speedway on February 9. The Goody’s Dash Series, which has opened its schedule at Daytona since 1979, is the only NASCAR Touring series to compete at the high-banked, 2.5-mile oval. The Goody's Dash Series will race 67 laps at Daytona.

On April 6, the series travels to a new venue - the .333-mile Hardeeville (S.C.) Motor Speedway, which opened its doors for the first time in 2000. The series’ inaugural event at Hardeeville will be 150 laps.

After two more short track events at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, N.C. and Lonesome Pine Raceway in Coeburn, Va., the Goody’s Dash Series heads to Charlotte, N.C. for its second superspeedway event at the 1.5-mile Lowe's Motor Speedway. The six-cylinder Goody's Dash Series cars will have their speed tested once again at the 1.5-mile Kentucky Speedway in Florence, Ky. on June 15.

For the final two races of the season, the Goody’s Dash Series will visit two more new tracks at Motordrome Speedway, a .500-mile oval in Smithton, Pa. and the .250-mile infield short track at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Ga.

Formerly known as the "Baby Grands," Goody’s Dash Series cars are the only NASCAR Touring series cars to use a 268 cubic-inch, 9:1 compression V-6 engine. The cars must weigh 2,750 pounds and maintain a wheelbase of 100 inches. The Goody's Dash Series is also the only NASCAR Touring series to feature foreign-manufactured cars, specifically the Toyota Celica, in addition to Chevrolets, Fords, Dodges and Pontiacs. The defending series champion is Cam Strader of Wilson, N.C., who earned the title after four wins and 13 top-five finishes in 2001.
