Kelly Sutton began racing in the age of 10, following her father's (Ed Sutton) footsteps. At he age of 16 she was diagnosed with LS. The disease delayed her racing career for 5 years, until 1992, when Kelly was driving in the Pro Mini Stock Series. During this year, Sutton won several trophies, including Hard Charger and Sportsmanship awards. She competed in the series for 3 years, and she was awarded the Most Popular Driver title during all these years.

Sutton wouldn't take part in any competitions during next years, until 1997, when she competed in Allison Pennsylvania Legacy Series, and won 2 feature races. And once again, she got the Most Popular Driver award.

In 2000, Kelly made the next step in her carrier by participating in the NASCAR Dash Series. In 2003 she advanced to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Sutton shown her best result that year at Ford 200 race being the 19th at the finish. She improved her result in 2005 when she finished 15th at the Quaker Steak and Lube 200.

In 2013, Kelly "Girl" Sutton was severely injured in the motorcycle accident, while riding as a passenger. She was delivered to the hospital in the critical condition. After complex rehabilitation, Sutton continued her carrier as a free agent.
